Three Davis County Girl Scouts — Heidi Eysser, 15, and Jennifer Sorenson, 19, both of Bountiful, and AbiRae Gilbertson, 18, of Clinton — were recently honored for earning the Gold Award. This is the highest award in Girl Scouts.
Fairfield Junior High School, 951 N. Fairfield, Kaysville, is presenting "Bye Bye Birdie," the musical, through April 2. Janet Loureiro directs a cast of about 100 students. Heidi Eysser, sophomore at Woods Cross High and Justin Parnell, a junior at Clearfield High, were winners recently in contests tied to Martin Luther King Jr. Heidi received the Dr. King Leadership Award from the University of Utah, while Justin won a statewide essay contest relating to Dr. King.
Carolyn Sharp, manager for the Wells Fargo branch on Gentile Street in Layton, has received the Athena Award from the Davis Chamber of Commerce for her consistent business efforts in the community, and her volunteer work.
Jonathan C. Smith, 13, of Troop 283 in Farmington, recently received his Eagle Scout award. He is the son of Craig and Kathy Smith and is a student at Farmington Junior High School.
Shalee Palmer of Clearfield is a finalist for the 25th annual Homecoming Queen contest for Utah, to be held April 30-May 1. She was the Clearfield High homecoming queen. She is the daughter of Reynold and Sharon Palmer.
Davis High student Jared Van Hoff has been named national award winner in English through the United States Achievement Academy. The son of Janet and Robert Van Hoff of Kaysville was selected for his academic performance, leadership qualities, citizenship and other qualities. He will be listed in the Official USAA Yearbook, a national publication. The academy, founded in 1978, aims to recognize outstanding secondary school and college students. It has granted over $860,000 in scholarships, its Web site states.
