Keith David Allred, Juab County's West Desert fire chief, died this week from injuries suffered in a traffic accident in the county.
Allred, 52, played a significant role in the consolidation of several volunteer fire departments, as he worked several years with the state to create the Juab County Fire District. He saw the need for a more organized fire protection effort after a local structure fire claimed the life of a child 10 years ago.
He was killed when the tanker truck he was driving to a safety inspection near the Utah-Nevada stateline suddenly blew three tires, causing the truck to roll.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, in the Rocky Ridge chapel, 151 N. East Ridge Road, in Mona. Friends and family may call 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Riverton City Cemetery.
