Utah camp notes

Gearing up

Utah wore full pads for the first time in camp as the NCAA-mandated acclimation period came to an end. The Utes will practice twice today, including a closed afternoon scrimmage at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

"It gives you a chance to see what you've got. You can run around without pads on all day and play football but it's just not the same," said starting center Jesse Boone. "Once you get out here with pads and start smacking each other in the face, you find out what kind of team you've got. I've been real happy with what I've seen."

Madsen sidelined

Senior wide receiver John Madsen, a projected starter and awards candidate, will be sidelined for about a week after suffering a left hamstring pull in practice Wednesday.

"I'm kind of discouraged right now. We do a lot of things to prevent these kinds of injuries," said Madsen, who was assured by team doctors that there was no tear. "It's just an unfortunate thing that happened. It tightened up on me."

Meyer playbook on eBay

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham wasn't surprised to learn that a copy of Urban Meyer's playbook is up for bids on eBay. However, he doesn't see much value to any outsiders having it—let alone paying for it.

"It's not plays it's about players," Whittingham said.
