Cort Galbraith 1951 ~ 2005 LAYTON - Our loving husband, father, and "papa" suddenly passed away Sunday, August 14, 2005 from complications following surgery at Ogden Regional Medical Center. Cort was born on August 22nd, 1951 to Leland H. Galbraith and Annie K. Adams in Ogden, Utah. Cort was raised in Layton and attended both Davis and Layton High Schools. Cort married his junior high school sweetheart, KaeLynne Johnson on September 21st, 1968. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Cort was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent much of his life in the Layton 22nd Ward. While there he served many callings, but will always be remembered for his work in scouting. He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 402 for many years and delighted in watching many of his scouts attain the rank of Eagle Scout. Cort spent 26 distinguished years in the fire service. During that time he was a firefighter at Hill Air Force Base and for Layton City. Cort began his career as a volunteer firefighter and quickly climbed the ranks, retiring in 1997 as the Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal. Cort was passionate about the fire service and especially fire prevention. As Fire Marshal he was instrumental in beginning the annual Fire Prevention Open House and Elementary School Fire Prevention programs, and was president of the Utah Fire Marshal's Association and Davis County Fire Officers Association. Cort had always wanted to drive "big rig" and spent many hours studying to obtain his Commercial Drivers License. He was so excited to recently begin working as a driver for Thurgood Excavation in Layton. Cort's lifelong dream was to own property and be a rancher. He spent many hours turning his dream into what he fondly referred to as the Circle G Ranch in West Layton. He loved "puttering" around in the barn or his shop, working the fields on his tractor, and raising horses on the ranch. He is survived by his father Leland H. Galbraith, wife KaeLynne, his son Cory Lee Galbraith, and daughters Heidi Lynn (Jason) Cook of Layton, Melanie (Richard) Jones of San Diego, CA and Shalece (Robert) Anderson of Layton; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Annie and his sister LeAnn. Cort will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. His life revolved around his family. He spent most weekends at his home away from home, the family cabin in the Uintalands. He loved riding horses, four wheelers, and snowmobiles with his family. His bright smile and contagious laugh brought happiness to everyone. Cort could talk to anyone and became friends with everyone he met. We will miss him dearly and love him forever. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the West Layton Second LDS Ward, 2120 West Gentile Street. Friends and family may call Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. e-mail condolences to the family at llm@lindquistmortuary.com
