Dorothy Maher 6/11/25 ~ 8/17/05 Dorothy Sharol Ostler Maher, 80, died from pneumonia in Salt Lake City on August 17, 2005. She was born June 11, 1925, in Tooele, Utah to Moroni Howarth and Rebecca Atkin Ostler. She married John Dennis "Jack" Maher, Jr., on December 12, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple. Dorothy spent most of her youth in Tooele County and attended Brigham Young University before marrying her sweetheart. Though her married life began in Tooele, she had lived in Midvale for two short years, then in Tooele again for nine more years, before moving to Salt Lake City over forty years ago. She was a magnificent mother raising three children, Roger, JoAnn and Craig, who were her greatest love in this mortality . . . exceeded only by, perhaps, the nine grandchildren that came under her loving care. Her gifts and talents were many, but she particularly enjoyed playing the piano and the organ in her ward wherever she lived. She has also served quietly in the Relief Society and the Primary and as a scribe /secretary to numerous bishoprics. Grandma Dorothy will always be remembered for her kindness to all, her ability to lift and strengthen, her celestial spirit and her friendly disposition. She truly loved life and labored and served with energy her entire life to follow the example of her Savior. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jack Maher; three children: Roger Dennis (Camille) of Lehi, Utah; JoAnn (Ron) Landrus of Rio Linda, California; and Craig (Teri) of Puyallup, Washington; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two sisters, Myrtice Jardine and Emma Beryl Bowen. She was preceded in death by her sister Alice Manning and half-sister Clara Christiansen. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 22, 2005, 11 a.m., at the Mt. Olympus 6th Ward, 4407 S. Fortuna Way (3605 E.). Family and friends may visit Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. and Monday morning from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Ward. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery, 365 S. 100 E., Tooele.
