Penny Thorpe 1958 ~ 2005 Penny Thorpe, one of a kind loving mother and wife, 47, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho from a stroke after a long battle with cancer. She was born July 7, 1958 in Blackfoot, Idaho, the daughter of LeRoy Elsdon Howard and Juanita Virginia Hostetter Howard. Penny graduated from Blackfoot High School. After graduation, she attended Ricks College where she received her Associates Degree. She also received a business degree from Boise State and a Bachelors in Electronic Engineering after attending ITT Tech and Weber State. On August 24, 2002, she married Nephi James Thorpe in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she had served in all the auxiliaries of the church. Penny worked for Evans and Southerlands, TSA for the federal government and Primerica Financial Services in Salt Lake City, UT. She loved to dance, camp, fish, and had a desire to work with children who suffered with disabilities. She is survived by her husband, Nephi, "Jim" Thorpe of Salt Lake City, UT; son, Justin Caldwell of Salt Lake City, UT; five step children and one step grandchild; parents, LeRoy and Juanita Howard of Blackfoot, ID; brothers, Ron (Karen) Howard of Gilbert, AZ; David (Dorene) Howard of Blackfoot, ID; and Roy Howard of Idaho Falls, ID. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave, Blackfoot, Idaho with Bishop Chris Cannon conducting. A viewing will be held 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service which will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the Butler 18th Ward, 6634 S. Greenfield Way, (1920 East) Murray, Utah. The family will meet with friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 S. 9th East, Murray, Utah. Interment will be in the Holladay Memorial Park Cemetery in Holladay, Utah under the direction of Memorial Estates.
