More Salt Lake hotel rooms were filled in July as occupancy rates rose to 78.4 percent, up from 69.1 percent in the same month a year ago.

According to the Rocky Mountain Lodging Report, released Tuesday, the average room rate in July increased to $76.68, up from $72.11 a year earlier.

Across the state, the hotel occupancy rate was at 76.6 percent, up from 69.9 percent in the same month of 2004, according to the report.

Cedar City showed the highest occupancy rate at 91.3 percent, with an average room rate of $71.58.

Rural Utah areas showed the lowest occupancy rate, at 65.2 percent, with an average room rate of $82.90.
