We have been saddened by the accidental deaths and heat-related illnesses befallen Boy Scouts and their leaders. The media seem to continually focus on these unfortunate circumstances. However, it is unfair to the other 99 percent of the 40,000 Scouts who have been attending the Jamboree this past week.
My two sons worked for two years to earn their way to the Jamboree. I know they're having an amazing experience. I'm grateful to our troop leaders who were willing to spend three weeks with a bunch of teenage boys. I haven't worried. I know our troop was well prepared to go. It would be great if we could show our returning Scouts something other than negative clippings from our local papers about the National Jamboree.
