Helping hand

Salt Lake Regional Medical Center — Volunteers are needed to answer phones and direct and greet patients. Hours vary between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

LifeCare Bank, yard care for seniors — Help senior citizens and people with disabilities with yard work, gardening and general yard maintenance. Great activity for individuals and groups of all sizes

American Diabetes Association — Volunteers needed for America's Walk for Diabetes Sept. 10. Four hours of service requested. Food and Hogle Zoo admission provided.

Bridges Volunteer Program — Adults tutor children who are struggling with reading, spelling, math and writing in neighborhood schools.

Golden Games — It is a sporting event modified for seniors in long-term care and assisted-care facilities. Volunteers needed Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help set up, facilitate and score events. Lunch ticket and Tommy Hilfiger T-shirt provided.

Salt Lake County Aging Services — We are seeking donations of new electric fans. The fans will go to Salt Lake County seniors who do not have central air in their homes.

New Life Foundation — We are looking for volunteers to facilitate eating disorders support groups for individuals suffering from anorexia and bulimia. Training provided. Background screening is required.

Rape Recovery Center — Volunteers provide crisis intervention services and educate the community about rape and sexual violence. Opportunities available on 24-hour crisis line, Hospital Response Team and Community Education Team. Flexible hours. Training begins Aug. 9.

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company — Assist with season projects, events, receptions, office projects, pre/post performance activities. Hours vary. No later than 9:30 p.m.

Operation English — Teach English weekly to Hispanic classes. Bilingual or teaching experience useful but not necessary. Training provided.

Alzheimer's Association — Volunteers needed to help with the 2005 Utah Memory Walk Sept. 17. Individuals and groups needed to raise funds and help with event activities.

Military Order of the World Wars — Volunteers needed Aug. 10-Sept. 22 to help with patriotic ceremony at pre-game of Air Force-Utah football game.
