TAYLORSVILLE — Police have arrested a man on several charges, including charges of setting fire to his own home.

Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, police and fire officials responded to a house fire near 5000 S. 3500 West. During the investigation, detectives received a call from the man's mother who told them the man had asked her to set fire to his house, according to a statement from Taylorsville Police Sgt. Rosie Rivera.

Shortly after the fire, the 48-year-old man was involved in a one-car accident not far from the house. He was taken into custody for questioning and later admitted to "setting a couch on fire in the residence," Rivera said.

The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated arson, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
