Taylorsville police are looking for some thieves who made off with a safe.
A safe, which was bolted to the floor and weighed several hundred pounds, was stolen from a Little Caesar's restaurant near 5400 South and 3800 West sometime early Monday after the store had closed.
Someone forced open the store's back door and then pried the safe from the floor, said Taylorsville police Chief Larry Marx.
Tuesday about 3:40 p.m. a hiker found the open and abandoned safe in Big Cottonwood Creek.
Marx said the thieves apparently took the safe to a remote area where they could work on opening it without being noticed.
"It takes a lot of time to get them open," he said.
Taylorsville police Wednesday were investigating whether the incident was related to a similar situation a few months ago in Murray where a safe from another Little Caesar's was stolen, Marx said.
