Transit-savvy U. called a top workplace by feds

The University of Utah has been designated as one of the nation's "Best Workplaces for Commuters."

The designation was given by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation. Alma Allred, U. Commuter Services director, says the honor is a direct result of the number of university students who ride the bus and TRAX to school.

"Our partnership with the Utah Transit Authority has resulted in 25 percent of our students, faculty and staff commuting to campus via mass transit," Allred said in a statement.

The "Best Workplaces for Commuters" honor is given to businesses that meet a "national standard of excellence" for reducing traffic and air pollution.
