Freshman Candice Clark scored her first career goal as the Aggies dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Montana in the final match of the Montana Nike Cup on Sunday in Missoula, Mont.
"We were a little shaky in the first half," said Aggie coach Heather Cairns. "We felt pretty confident when we got the come-from-behind goal, but then we made one mistake in overtime and they took advantage of it."
Utah State has now gone 10 matches without a win and dropped to 0-4-2 on the year. The win was the first of the season for the Grizzlies as they improved to 1-4-1.
Clark's first career goal helped the Aggies pull even with the Grizzlies in the 79th minute. A pass from Lindsay Nuttall found Clark in the open field and Clark was able to beat Grizzly goalie Sarah Braseth from 12-yards out.
Montana's game-winning goal came at 98:41 in the first overtime and was set up by a Grizzly corner kick. The kick fell short of the box but was corralled by Sara Campbell. Campbell booted across in front of the Aggie goal, where Lindsay Winans had position and headed it past Kelli Allred.
Allred recorded six saves in the loss, while Braseth stopped four shots. Montana held the18-11 advantage in shots and the nine-to-three edge on corner kicks.
