Xbox Live will sponsor MWC tourney

The Mountain West Conference today announced Xbox Live has agreed to become the title sponsor of the 2006 MWC Women's Basketball Championships. The partnership was sold through a joint sales partnership between the MWC and SportsWest.

The 2006 Xbox Live Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Championship will be played at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., beginning with a first-round game on March 7 and concluding with the championship game on March 11. It will be the third consecutive year the championship will be played at Pepsi Center.

"We are excited to become the title sponsor of the 2006 Xbox Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Championship," said Bill Nielsen, Director, U.S. Subsidiary. "The Mountain West Conference features some of the strongest women's basketball in the NCAA, and we are proud to be a major part of such a tremendous conference."

"The Mountain West Conference is pleased to have Xbox Live as its title sponsor for the 2006 women's basketball championship," said MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson. "The women's basketball championship is one of our premier events and we look forward to a successful partnership with Xbox Live."

All quarterfinal and semifinal games will be broadcast nationally by College Sports Television (CSTV). ESPN2 will broadcast the championship game on a tape-delay basis at 10 p.m. MST on March 11.

The championship seeds are determined by the finish of each team in the regular season schedule. The winners of the XBOX Live 2006 Mountain West Conference Basketball Championship in 2006 will receive an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.
