Head-on I-15 collision kills man near Spanish Fork

A Midvale man was killed in a head-on crash north of Spanish Fork early Wednesday morning.

Killed was: Christopher Cannon, 19.

Cannon was driving a sports car near Spanish Fork when a car driven by 33-year-old Springville woman came across the median of I-15 and hit his car about 1 a.m., said Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Nigbur.

Cannon was not wearing a seat belt and was killed instantly.

The Springville woman's car was traveling south on the interstate when it crossed the median and sideswiped a sport utility vehicle, Nigbur said. The driver of the SUV wasn't hurt, but the woman's car bounced off the SUV and hit Cannon.

A passenger in Cannon's car, 19-year-old Michelle Payne, was out of the car and looking dazed when troopers arrived, Nigbur said.

Both women were taken by ambulances to Mountain View Hospital in Payson.

Investigators suspect alcohol or drugs may have been a factor in the crash, Nigbur said. All northbound lanes of I-15 were shut down in the area while investigators were on the scene, Nigbur said.
