Obituary: Carl Thomas Ovard

Carl Thomas Ovard "Grump" HENEFER, UT - Carl Thomas Ovard "Grump," 80, died at his home on September 21, 2005. He was born on February 14, 1925 in Henefer, Utah to Joseph William and Retta Fowler Ovard. On August 28, 1944, he married Kathleen Durrant in the Salt Lake Temple. Carl graduated from North Summit High School and attended the University of Utah. He worked for Brown's Dairy Tank Company and was the founder of Dairy Tank Company and Grump's Gas and Grocery in Henefer, Utah. He also worked for Wardley Real Estate and the State Road. He was known for his wisdom, love, smile and humor. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Henefer 1st Ward, where he held many positions; he and his wife served a mission in Columbus, Ohio and he was also a temple worker. Carl served as a Summit County Commissioner. Surviving are his wife of Henefer, three sons and two daughters: Randy C. (Becky) Ovard, Henefer; Elaine (Lane) Fawcett, Bountiful; Jeffrey D. (Susan) Ovard, Henefer; Wendy (Dean) Bates, St. George; Chris Thomas (Katrina) Ovard, Mansfield, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 35 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brother and three sisters: Doug Ovard, Henefer; Doris Murdock, Henefer; JoAnn Bowen, Hoytsville; Fawn Stephens, Henefer; and Brent Ovard, Henefer. Preceded in death by a son, Lee James Ovard and a brother, Glen Ovard. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 26, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Henefer Chapel. Friends may call at the church Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Henefer Cemetery. Email condolences to the family at
