The Yankees (88-63) defeated Baltimore 2-1 on Wednesday night to move a half-game ahead of Boston (88-63), which lost to Tampa Bay 7-4, for first in the AL East. The only other times this year that New York led the division were after an opening-night win over Boston, and following a July 18 victory at Texas.
