No more 'lap kids' on airplanes

In light of the recent emergency landing of JetBlue Flight 292, I wonder how many of us realize the danger to children under age 2 years of flying while sitting on their parent's lap. I tried to contact a major airline about what happens in an emergency landing with lap children, and they chose not to give me a straight answer. The Web site explained it all. In short, a lap child is wrapped in a blanket and put under the seat for an emergency landing. The thought of that just terrifies me. It makes me wonder why the FAA doesn't make it mandatory that everyone have his or her own seat.
