SPRINGVILLE — Half a dozen children and the female driver in a full-size sport-utility vehicle escaped serious injury Friday when the vehicle was struck by a passing train.
A 10-year-old girl suffered the only injury — a minor cut on her arm. The SUV was destroyed, police Lt. Dave Caron said. The driver, 34, was northbound in Old Main Street about 6 p.m. when she stopped too close to the tracks near the flashing railroad crossing lights, Caron said.
The road, which intersects the tracks at a 45-degree angle, had recently been repaved and had no markings, Caron said. When the train came by it struck the front of the SUV and dragged it a short distance.
