— One woman in the United States is diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer every 7 minutes.
— About 80,000 women will be diagnosed with one of the cancers this year, and more than 20,000 will die.
— If detected early, survival rate for gynecologic cancers is 90 percent. At later stages, the survival rate drops to 50 percent or less.
— There is no widely accepted and effective screening test for ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulva cancers. The Pap test, in use for the past half century to screen for cervical cancer, has reduced deaths from that disease by 74 percent.
