In 1934, a 20-year-old adventurer named Everett Ruess disappeared in the rugged canyons near Escalante. His fate remains a mystery, but it has generated a lot of interest over the years. The towns of Boulder and Escalante will hold their second Everett Ruess Days celebration Thursday through Oct. 8.
Events begin in Boulder on Thursday at Anasazi State Park, with a Western arts and crafts display, a series of speakers, and music and dancing.
Events in Escalante are Oct. 7 and 8 at the City Hall and Community Hall and include arts and crafts, entertainment, walking tours and a Dutch-oven cook-off (www.everettruessdays.org or call 435-826-4810).
