Katrina by the numbers

The first 300 of a potential 2,000 hurricane refugees have arrived in Utah by air.

42,000 people have been evacuated from New Orleans; about as many remain.

An estimated 240,000 Louisianans have found sanctuary in neighboring Texas.

More than 40,000 National Guard and active-duty soldiers are now in the region.

The Army Corps of Engineers says it may take up to 80 days to drain flooded New Orleans.
