Stingers out, despite win

LAS VEGAS — Two run homers in the seventh inning by Alberto Callaspo and Jeff Mathis broke a 4-4 tie, as the Salt Lake Stingers rolled to an 8-5 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Sunday afternoon.

Despite the win, Salt Lake was eliminated from the Pacific North Division race, as Tacoma edged Sacramento, 3-2. Chris Prieto opened the seventh with a triple and scored on Callaspo's first Triple-A home run. Nick Gorneault doubled with one out and came home on Mathis' home run, his fourth in the three games.

Clayton Andrews (8-8) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Lou Merloni went 2-for-5 including a three run double, as he continues his rehab assignment. Callaspo ended up with two hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Prieto and Brandon Wood each had two hits, including a triple for the Stingers, as they have now won a season high eight straight games.
