It was a good move on the part of President Bush to nominate John Roberts to be the new chief justice of the Supreme Court. The battle over the Roberts' nomination appears to have been already won. If Bush had nominated Justice Scalia or Justice Thomas to be the new chief, there would be a fight over that person's nomination.
The Roberts nomination for chief justice gives the Senate one less thing to quarrel about. With everything else that is going on, that is a good thing.
