WEST VALLEY CITY — A 13-year-old boy found unconscious Friday evening in a field at West Lake Junior High was extremely intoxicated but not seriously injured, West Valley Police Sgt. Michael Coleman said Saturday.

Police responding to a call found the boy unconscious and unresponsive in the school's field, bleeding from the nose and believed to have a broken jaw, Coleman said. It was not immediately known whether the boy was a student at the school.

The boy was transported to Primary Children's Medical Center, where he was determined to have no broken bones, Coleman said. Police reported the boy had been assaulted, but not as badly as first thought.

The boy was "extremely intoxicated, which contributed to his ability to respond," Coleman said.

A juvenile was taken into custody in connection with the incident, and others are being sought, Coleman said.
