Scott Raymond Bowers Dedicated family man 1949 ~ 2006 BOUNTIFUL- Saturday morning, January 14, 2006, Scott Raymond Bowers, 56, passed away surrounded by his family. Three years earlier he was diagnosed with lung cancer and was given three to seven months to live. Thanks to many prayers and much fasting, family support, and excellent medical care, he survived two and a half years longer than expected. Scott was born March 20, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the second of eight children in the Raymond Cottrell and Elise Terry Bowers family. He was raised in Salt Lake City and graduated from Olympus High School in 1967. He enrolled at Weber State College to study Business Administration in 1968. Scott joined the Utah National Guard in 1969 and continued until 1978. He began working for his father at Anchor Lumber at the age of eight years old doing many odd jobs. Following high school he worked for his father at the City Electric Supply stores in Salt Lake and Orem. During the next 10 years he worked his way up from the wholesale counter to outdoor sales and eventually replaced his father as the store manager of the City Electric Supply store in Salt Lake. In recent years he was a General Partner of Intermountain Holding Company, a property management business. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Scott thoroughly held dear the responsibility of being a priesthood holder and had a great love for the home teaching program. From 1987 to 2000 Scott and his family lived in Carlsbad, California, a place that Scott often referred to as "Paradise". He enjoyed the many friends and acquaintances he associated with in Carlsbad. While in California he attended Palomar College and California State University at San Marcos and finished his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1999. He married the girl of his dreams, Mary Jean (Jeanie) Larsen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, August 9, 1974. Scott is survived by his wife and three sons and two daughters-in-law, Russell (Erin), Richard (Brittany), and John; his mother, and seven siblings: Judy (James Dykman), Mark (Denise), Rebecca (Norman Bryce), Paul (Jamie), Kevin (DeAnne), all of Salt Lake City; and Terrie (Douglas Fisher), Fort Collins, CO; and Lori (Kent Denney), Afton, Wyo. He is also survived by his in-laws Burton and Mary Larsen, Salt Lake City; and sisters-in-law Patti (Joseph L.) Scott, Salt Lake City; and Shari (Mark B.) Gibbons, Bountiful. In addition he is survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews on both sides of his family. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents: Louis J., Sr. and Alice Bowers and LeGrand and Clara Terry. At this time the Bowers family wishes to thank Drs. Wallace Akerley and Gilbert Schreiber and the many doctors, nurses and staff members at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and Hospital, as well as The Avalon Care Center in Bountiful and Odyssey Hospice for their excellent care and dedication to Scott's welfare. They also appreciate the support from their neighbors and friends in the Bountiful Woodland Hills Ward who provided many meals and visits to him. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodland Hills Ward, 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family are invited to call Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Friday from 9:30 -10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Woodland Hills Ward.
