Along with this new — and most welcome — emphasis on films from all around the world, it should be pointed out that, even in the American Dramatic Competition are a few films with a strong foreign background and/or foreign sensibilities.

Eastern European director Goran Dukic infuses his strange and quirky "Wristcutters: Love Story" with a wholly original slant, as a group of oddball characters who have all committed suicide go on an adventure-laden quest when they find themselves thrown together in the afterlife.

Likewise, Korean director So Yong Kim gives his highly visual "In Between Days" a distinctive look and feel as he explores the tender story of an immigrant girl who is newly arrived in America.
