W. Ralph Westover 1917 ~ 2006 BRIGHAM CITY - Wendell Ralph Westover, 88, passed away on Wed., Jan. 18, 2006 at the McKay Dee Hospital from natural causes. He was born on April 27, 1917 in Rexburg, Idaho, a son of Floyd Delbert and Margaret Clay Westover. He lived in Rexburg and Aberdeen, Idaho and Brigham City, Utah. He was one of 11 children, five older and five younger. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp after he graduated from Aberdeen High School. Ralph served a mission in the Northern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years. When he returned from his mission he served in the Army Air Force during World War II in Florida. While home on a leave, he met his sweetheart, Lillian Sheffield on the dance floor. They were married July 20, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children, Elva Schroeder (James) of Ogden, James Ralph Westover (deceased), Robert Sheffield Westover and William Floyd Westover (Robin) both of Brigham City. Ralph owned a dry cleaning plant in Brigham City for 25 years. He also worked at the Post Office where he retired in 1983. He and his wife were dance directors for 20 years both as Ward, Stake and Region directors. Ralph and Lillian served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple for 16 1/2 years. He was an active member of the Brigham City 9th Ward, where he was a High Priest. He also served in MIA, Sunday School and Ward Chorister for the Priesthood. Ralph loved his family, dancing and singing, but the love of his life was working as Santa's helper for 31 years from Thanksgiving to Christmas, especially on Christmas Eve. Ralph also enjoyed life. He loved his family and oh how he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian; three children, 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchil-dren with two on the way, two sisters and one brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, one granddaughter, three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 9th Ward Chapel, 236 East 100 South. Family will greet friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County.
