Mary Parrish Pourtales 1916 ~ 2006 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Parrish Pourtales, 89, passed away in the late evening of Jan. 21, 2006 at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 25, 1916 in Mountain Green, Utah to Joseph Alonzo and Ida Elizabeth Parrish. After graduating from Morgan High, she attended BYU and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education, then served a mission for the LDS church in Wisconsin and Minnesota. During World War II she joined the Navy and trained as a physical therapist while working on returning soldiers in Sun Valley, Idaho and Hawaii. After leaving the Navy she attended the University of Southern California and was part of the first USC graduating class of Physical Therapy. She married Donald James Pourtales on July 3, 1947, moved to Rainier, Oregon and, with her husband, raised Christmas trees and two beautiful daughters. After the death of her husband in 1974, she moved to Woods Cross to be closer to family. She enjoyed quilting, family history, gardening and arguing politics. Alert and independent to the end, her influence will be felt for generations to come. Mary is survived by her two daughters, Shirlee (Mike) Noble, Layton, Utah; and Donna (Curtis) Pledger, Mapleton, Utah, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Josephine Spring, Bountiful, Utah; and Naomi Wallace, Ithaca, New York. A special thanks the Hearts for Hospice for their loving care. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 12:00 in the LDS Chapel at 2064 South 800 West in Woods Cross, Utah. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment, Centerville City Cemetery. Funeral Services provided by SereniCare.
