WEST JORDAN — The woman who police say ignored a friend who fatally overdosed on drugs made an initial appearance in court Tuesday.

Macall Aubrey Petersen, 18, who had missed two previous court appearances, attended a roll call hearing before 3rd District Judge Royal Hansen.

Police say Petersen injected a friend, Amelia Sorich, twice with a "speedball" cocktail of cocaine and heroin on June 25, 2005, at a party. Sorich died of an overdose. Police say Petersen and a co-defendant, Jasen Andrew Calacino, dumped Sorich's body in the foothills near Bountiful rather than call 911 or seek other help.

Petersen is charged with abuse of a dead body, obstruction of justice and two counts of possessing a controlled substance, all third-degree felonies, and negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor. She is out on bail.
