OREM — A 20-year-old man is accused of attempting to force his way into an Orem woman's house early Wednesday.

Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said the woman opened the door at 1:20 a.m. to see a man she had briefly met through a mutual friend.

She refused to let him, Edwards said, and the man, who police say was inebriated, responded by grabbing the woman's throat and trying to force his way in the home. The woman fought the man, kicking and screaming. The commotion awoke her young daughter, who ran into the front room.

When the man saw the child, he let go of the woman and ran out of the house, according to Edwards.

The woman — not seriously injured — called police, who were able to locate the man about two hours later. Officers found him hiding under a car in the parking garage of the Village Park apartment complex, 1000 N. 200 West.

The man was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of burglary and assault. He also has warrants out of Salt Lake for burglary charges totaling $50,000, according to Orem police.
