LOS ANGELES — In its first road match of the season, the second-ranked BYU men's volleyball team caught fire after losing Game 1 to defeat No. 5 UCLA 3-1 (24-30, 30-26, 30-14, 30-24) late Thursday night at Pauley Pavilion.

BYU (7-0 overall, 5-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) and UCLA (4-4, 0-2 MPSF) square off again tonight in Los Angeles.

Ivan Perez led three Cougars in double-digit kills with 21, his fourth match this season eclipsing 20. Taylor Evans and Russell Holmes added 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Holmes led the Cougars in blocks with seven as the team tallied 11.5.

After struggling in the first game, Perez cruised to a .500 hitting percentage and was one of four Cougars to hit better than .400, joined by Evans (.474), Victor Batista (.471) and Jonathan Charette (.533)

As a team, BYU hit .450 (65-16-109) and logged a season-high nine aces, including four by Batista and three by Evans.

Paul George led UCLA with 11 kills while hitting .562. The Bruins hit .288 (55-21-118) as a team and had 4.0 blocks.
