Taxing basic necessities is immoral. Removal of food tax benefits all, especially the poor. Utah is one of the few states that still has sales tax on food. The money saved on sales tax becomes available for consumers to buy other items, probably taxable.
Playing games with fractional amounts or rebates only complicates it. Rebates are often not received by those who need them the most, because they misunderstand them. We certainly don't need more complexity on our hated complex tax returns.
Polls have indicated that removal of food sales tax is the preferred state tax deduction. Let's do it.
