Ida Orton Shannon 1909 ~ 2006 Ida Orton Goulding Shannon, 96 of Panguitch, passed away Friday, January 27, 2006 in Panguitch of natural causes. Ida was born June 24, 1909 in Panguitch to William Owen and Rebecca Perscilla Allphin Orton, the 10th of 12 children. She was raised and educated in Panguitch. In 1927, Ida married Gloran K. Goulding in Panguitch. Three children were born to this union. They divorced in 1952. She married Allen E. Faux in 1952 and he died in 1971. She married Louis J. Graham in 1972 and he died in 1983. In 1985, Melvin L. "Barney" Shannon and Ida were married. Melvin died on November 1, 2005. She moved to Ogden in 1951 where she worked most of her life. In Panguitch, she worked for the school lunch program, various cafe's and the S & C Mercantile. In Ogden, she worked at the Ogden Arsenal and later at Hill Field as supervisor in the cafeteria, where she retired in 1971. After retirement, she spent most days volunteering at the Golden Hour Senior Center in Ogden. In 1988, she and Barney moved to St. George during the winter. They moved to Panguitch in 1993 and continued to spend the winters in St. George. Winters in St. George were spent with daughter, Gloria Sevy and volunteering four days a week at the St. George Senior Citizens Center. She was a lifelong member of the LDS Church and served as a Visiting Teacher for many years. In St. George, she enjoyed going to the Temple. Ida is survived by her children, Gloria (Laine) Sevy of Panguitch and St. George; Louise Crosby of Leavenworth, Kansas; Joseph K. (Lee) Goulding of Las Vegas, Nevada; and a step-daughter, Dawn K. Young of Augusta, Maine. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grand-children and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Ella Anderson, William Owen Orton, Ardith Orton, Samuel Orien Orton, Jessie Wentworth Orton, Esther Frances Cox, Gwen Orton, Emma Orton, Carlos Henry Orton, David Morris Orton, Ada Ann Orton; grandchildren, Paul Crosby and Sandra Sevy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Panguitch 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 200 North 400 East. Friends may call at the ward chapel in Panguitch on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m and again on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Panguitch Cemetery. The family expresses their thanks to Kolob Care and Rehab Center in St. George and the Garfield Memorial Hospital Extended Care Center for their many kindnesses and compassionate care to Ida during this past year.
