Obituary: Lucile Halversen Sperry

Lucile Halversen Sperry 1922 ~ 2006 Lucile Halversen Sperry, 83, passed away Jan. 28, 2006, at her home in Bountiful, Utah. She was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Corvalis, Oregon to William Vernal and Minnie Elthora Hicken Halversen. She married George W. Sperry of Nephi, Utah on July 3, 1946, in Portland, Oregon. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple in 1955. She grew up in Corvalis, Oregon and Moscow, Idaho. She earned a BS degree from the U. of Idaho, Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and a MS degree from the U. or Oregond Utah State University. She settled in Bountiful, Utah with her husband in 1949 and raised her three children. She loved to read and play the piano. She was always happy in the kitchen cooking for her family and making her famous homemade Christmas candy. She loved teaching young people and taught music for many years to the pre-school students of the Wishing Well. She was a life-long member of the LDS Church and valiantly served in many musical positions including ward and choir organist, Sunday School and Primary chorister, and pianist for the Bountiful handicapped Primary. She also loved teaching in Relief Society and providing flowers for the chapel each Sunday. Her house was adorned with the things she loved: books, pictures of her children and grandchildren, flower arrangements, birds and reminders of her pioneer heritage. She is survived by her three children Steven William (Dallas, Texas); Shannon (Paul) (Mercer Island, WA); and George Scott (Kathleen) (West Point, UT) and by 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother William Halversen of San Jose, CA and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, Elizabeth Jordan, and brother, Dr. Thomas Halversen. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at 11 at the Bountiful 19th Ward Chapel, 1540 No. 400 E. in Bountiful, Utah.
