UDOT to close lanes on I-80 to fix potholes

The Utah Department of Transportation is closing lanes on I-80 today to repair two potholes.

From 8 a.m. until noon, one eastbound lane will be closed near Lamb's canyon. From noon until 4 p.m., the outside westbound lane will be closed. The repairs are in the same location where UDOT did a 10-day emergency fix on potholes last month.

UDOT spokesman Nile Easton said the agency does not anticipate major delays. "It's just two potholes and we'll be in and out very quickly," he said.

Easton did warn, however, that more potholes could form on I-80 near Lamb's canyon. When UDOT did last month's temporary fix, pavement was exposed, making it easier for water to "creep into cracks" and potholes to form, said Easton.

"Potholes form every winter and especially when we have exposed pavement," said Easton. "It could happen again until we get in and pave in the spring."
