John Groberg was called as a general authority in 1976, beginning a life of travel that took him and his wife, Jean, to the South Pacific, Argentina and Mongolia, among other places. In this book, he relates some of his experiences doing LDS Church work around the world.
THE SOFT-SPOKEN PARENT: MORE THAN 50 STRATEGIES TO TURN AWAY WRATH, by H. Wallace Goddard, Leatherwood Press, 210 pages, softcover. The author has spent his career studying and counseling and teaching about parenting. It is his belief that it can be done with kindness, patience and love.
A LOVE LIKE LILLY, by Kay Lynn Mangum, Deseret Book, 342 pages, $15.95, softcover. The author, who is trained in English Literature, presents a novel centering on the love of Grandma Lilly and Grandpa Harold. Jamie, the granddaughter, learns more about them by finding a journal and album that show "the wilder days" of her grandparents. She learns a lesson about forgiveness.
NOT ANOTHER SARAH: AVOIDING AND ESCAPING ABUSE, by Sarah Southerland, Millennial Press, 188 pages, $12.95, softcover. For those who wonder why women get involved in abusive relationships, this novel tries to provide answers. It tells the story of a courageous woman who found a way out of such a relationship.
CLAY IN THE MASTER'S HANDS, compiled by Wayne Shute, Millennial Press, 241 pages, $14.95, softcover. This book includes essays by nine LDS authors who deal with personal adversity and the ways people have coped with it.
THE HEALER'S ART: FAITH AND THE HEALING POWER OF JESUS CHRIST, by Lloyd D. Newell and Don H. Staheli, Deseret Book, 109 pages, $16.95. The cover art is a painting, "Christ Healing at the Well of Bethesda," by Carl Bloch. The authors use the various scenes from the painting to symbolize different spiritual challenges on the path to healing. There is, for instance, the crowd behind the pillar, the distracted bystanders and the man in the red cap.
