The Bountiful High School drama department, under the direction of Angela Brown, is presenting "Into the Woods," a Tony award-winning musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim Nov. 11, 13-18 and 20.

The play begins at 7 p.m. in the Bountiful High School auditorium, 695 S. Orchard Drive. Tickets are available during school hours in the BHS business office and at Top Hat Video. Prices are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

Among the characters in this fractured fairy tale are an ambivalent Cinderella, a hungry and blood-thirsty Little Red Riding Hood, a Prince Charming with a roving eye and a witch who raps. When a baker and his wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the witch who lives next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell. They encounter Cinderella, Little Red, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk) along the way. Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act 1, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them in Act 2, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively, irreverent fantasy in the style of "The Princess Bride" becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.

The actors and the parts they play are: Collin King, baker; Elise Plant, baker's wife; Katie Bennett, Cinderella; P.J. Schwartz, Jack; and Nelson Call, the mysterious man.
