Two more players have given early recruiting commitments to the University of Utah football program.

Deshawn Richard, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound defensive back from Victor Valley College (Calif.) and Nai Fotu, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound running back/linebacker from Kahuku High School in Hawaii, plan to sign national letters of intent with the Utes in February.

"I feel it's a great program," said Richard, who is eager for the opportunity to compete for a starting job next fall.

Richard, who has 4.4 speed in the 40, chose Utah over offers from Wyoming and Louisiana Tech. He was also recruited by Oregon State.

Fotu opted for Utah after fielding offers from Hawaii and Arizona.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin quoted a recruiter as saying that Fotu is the "most underrated player in the islands."

The addition of Richard and Fotu brings Utah's list of early commitments for 2007 to nine. The others include defensive end James Aiono (Murray HS), wide receiver Jereme Brooks (Clear Lakes HS, Texas), defensive back Josh Broughton (Citrus CC, Calif.), wide receiver James Carter (Moreno Valley HS, Calif.), offensive lineman Louis Finner (Plano East HS, Texas), quarterback Griffin Robles (Spanish Fork HS) and tight end Dallin Rogers (Union Mine HS, Calif.).
