MAPLETON — Linda Jones Lewis received the Utah Middle/Junior High School Teacher of the Year award by the Utah Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Lewis taught for 34 years at Springville Middle School and now teaches at the new Mapleton Junior High, which opened in August.

Lewis has worked to promote physical education in the Nebo School District throughout her career. For 15 years, she collected more than $100,000 for the American Heart Association from students and employees at Springville Middle. She also coordinated the Utah Lung Association's "Walk for Lung" at Springville Middle and has collected $103,000 for that group.

This year is the second time that Lewis has received the teacher of the year award from the UAHPERD. The first time she received it was in 1985.
