Virginia Diffee Chadwick 6/17/24 ~ 11/5/06 At daybreak, on a beautiful Sunday morning November 5, 2006, our mother passed away peacefully at home. Virginia Diffee Chadwick, age 82, of Salt Lake City, Utah was born June 17, 1924, the 2nd of three daughters born to William and Ora Hilburn Diffee. She met the love of her life during World War II, a young lieutenant, Russell H. Chadwick, from Utah who was stationed near her home in Rome, GA. They married in San Angelo, Texas, on July 1, 1944 and he was sent overseas. After the war they made their home in Salt Lake City, where she lived the rest of her life. Even though Mom lived in Utah much longer than in the South, she remained a proud Southerner, joined the Southerner's Club, was our family's "Georgia peach". Mom adapted to Utah, learned to ice skate when her daughters took up the sport, then when they started skiing, mom learned to ski. She wasn't afraid to try anything and was artistic, sociable and a great family storyteller. Virginia worked for the State of Utah as an intake counselor; she would make home visits if necessary to be sure the elderly received food stamps they were entitled to. She was a kind neighbor and all were welcome in her home. Most of all Mom loved her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Vivian C. Newth (Dick) and Torrie C. Taylor (Roger) of Salt Lake City; grandsons: Chad (Squeek) Nowels, Matthew Nowels, Todd Nowels, and M. Casey Taylor; one and only granddaughter, Alisa Duncan; and great-granddaughter, Kamryn Young. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces who will miss their aunt Geannie, and by her two sisters' husbands, James Venner and Bobby McCoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell "Chad" Chadwick; grandson, Brett J. Duncan; her sisters, Hazel McCoy and Margie Venner; and all Chadwick in-laws. The family would like to thank the staff at the Wentworth at Willow Creek and Hospice for Utah for their compassionate care during her final months, weeks and days. It was mom's wish to be cremated. Her memorial will be held on November 25, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84109. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice for Utah, 11639 S. 700 E, Draper, UT 84020. Condolences may be sent online at www.holbrookmortuary.com
