Russell Edward Barkley "Rusty" Russell "Rusty" Edward Barkley passed away Nov. 20, 2006 from lung cancer, surrounded by his friends. He was born April 9, 1956, in Waco, Texas to Alvis and Betty June Barkley. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1974 in Waco. He attended Oklahoma Christian College in Oklahoma City. He served in the Navy for four years as an internal communication repair specialist, with a tour in Lebanon. He worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and was loved by staff and patients alike. He made friends easily and quickly. He had a contagious smile and infectious laugh. He loved fishing, computers, Chess Pie, Texas football and was an avid reader. He is with his heroes Tom Landry and Mickey Mantle. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by one brother Daryl Barkley and wife Robbie of Carrollton, TX; one sister Betty Haun and husband Dean of Waco, TX, and many nieces and nephews. He had many wonderful friends from the VA Medical Center where he worked. Thanks for making us laugh. Memorial services will be held at the VA Medical Center Chapel on Dec. 1, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. He kindly donated his body to the University of Utah Medical Center. His final remains will be buried in his beloved home state of Texas. Contributions maybe sent to the American Cancer Society.
