SHARE Dell is granted warrants to purchase 4.9% stake in Altiris

Dell Inc., the world's second-largest personal computer maker, was granted warrants to buy up to 1.46 million shares of Lindon-based Altiris Inc. as part of an agreement between the two companies to jointly develop software.

Dell can purchase the shares, which amount to 4.9 percent of Altiris's stock outstanding, for $23.13 each, Altiris said Friday in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The price is 3.3 percent below Altiris's close Friday on the Nasdaq tock market.

Altiris, a maker of computer-management software, and Round Rock, Texas-based Dell agreed to develop applications that will be marketed under Dell's name.

The warrants may be exercised if Altiris is sold or if Dell's sales of Altiris products reach an agreed-upon level, the filing said.

Dell shares rose 20 cents to close at $27.33 Friday on the Nasdaq stock market. Altiris fell 23 cents to $23.91.
