OREM — Disney's High School Musical Concert tour has tapped Utah County dancer Jared Murillo, 18, as a principal dancer and an assistant choreographer.

The tour began Nov. 29 in San Diego. The concert tour will visit more than 40 cities in two months and conclude in Las Vegas on Jan. 28. The tour is based on the film, "High School Musical," which also featured Murillo. The popular movie produced a triple-platinum selling soundtrack, which is the top-selling album to date. It is predicted to finish No. 1 in the pop charts for the year, promoters say.

Murillo is the U.S. Latin Youth ballroom champion and a former World and U.S. Swing Champion.

Fans can follow the tour by reading Murillo's weekly blog with backstage photos of the cast and a journal of activities at www.centerstageutah.com and www.utahdancesport.com. The blog is sponsored by "Utah DanceSport Championships" ballroom competition, which is coming to Thanksgiving Point in February.

Murillo will be performing with Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu and others.

The original High School Musical production was mostly shot in Salt Lake City. He also signed on for the Disney television sequel scheduled to begin shooting sometime in February in Utah.

Murillo comes from a family of seven children who all participate in the arts and have developed their talents and skills at Center Stage Performing Arts Studios in Orem, which his parents, Alex and Robin Murillo, own and operate. The family lives in Mapleton.
