A three-week trial has been set next summer for Eugene Floyd Maestas, who is charged with capital murder in connection with the 2004 slaying of Donna Lou Bott, 75, in her home while she slept.
Maestas, 51, also is facing charges of first-degree felony aggravated burglary and second-degree felony forcible sex abuse.
Maestas is set for trial July 11-Aug. 10, 2007, before 3rd District Judge Paul Maughan.
Prosecutors say Maestas and two other men, Rodney Roy Renzo, 21, and William Hugh Irish, 21, broke into Bott's home to rob it and Maestas sexually abused the woman and then strangled, stomped and beat her to death.
The three men also are charged with breaking into the home of another woman, who was then 83, during the same night, and prosecutors contend Maestas hit her, but she was not killed.
If convicted of the capital charge, Maestas could face the death penalty. He is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on $1 million bail.
