A 19-year-old man was injured while skiing in Big Cottonwood Canyon Wednesday afternoon.

The man and two friends had snowshoed into a popular ski area about three miles from the Spruces Campground to do some skiing, and the man fell and broke his leg, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Bertram. The group used a cell phone to call for help, and rescuers located them using snowmobiles and a helicopter. The man was brought out of the area on a snowmobile and taken to LDS Hospital in serious condition.

Bertram said the group was prepared with the proper equipment, which allowed searchers to help locate them quickly.
