The Jordan Park Peace Gardens weren't so peaceful for one Salt Lake man Thursday.
Just before 8 p.m., a 41-year-old man who said he was walking his dogs in the Peace Gardens, 1060 S. 900 West, even though they were closed at the time, was shot by another man.
Salt Lake City released few details on the incident Friday. They believe the victim was shot in the leg and buttocks "a couple of times" but weren't sure how many. The man initially believed he had been shot by a pellet gun until he was taken to a local hospital and doctors found a bullet still in his body, said Salt Lake City police detectives Jeff Bedard.
The man was in fair condition Friday, he said.
Detectives were investigating Friday whether the shooting was random or if any words were exchanged between the two parties before shots were fired.
The man's dogs were found back at the victim's house, a short distance away, Bedard said.
Police were looking for a white man about 5-foot-10 and a heavy build with dark hair. He was last seen wearing a dark blue jacket and light colored pants.
