Sen. Orrin Hatch may be the only Utah official at Tuesday's state funeral for former President Gerald R. Ford.
Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., who served under two Republican presidents but did not know Ford, will not attend the service, his spokesman, Mike Mower, said. Nor will Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert.
"There will be no formal representative of the state at President Ford's funeral," Mower said. "However, we anticipate that many Utahns whose lives have been touched by President Ford's leadership and service will be in attendance."
Hatch, R-Utah, will view the former president's casket today and attend the funeral service Tuesday, according to his office.
Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, will be traveling with other senators to South America to meet with the presidents of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.
Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, and Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, will be traveling back to Washington on Tuesday and will likely miss the funeral, according to their offices.
A spokesman for Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, could not be reached.
