The Davis School District's boundary consultant will be unveiling a new boundary realignment proposal Tuesday that will redraw the boundaries in Davis' seven high schools while making room for a new eighth high school in Syracuse.
Unlike the former proposal, the new plan will not be presented in public hearings and will go directly to the Davis Board of Education for a first-reading vote. After the first-reading approval, the public will have access to the proposal online.
School-district officials said they hope to have the new boundaries approved by the end of January so they can get started on further developments of the new school, as well as getting enrollment counts for next fall.
Former Davis superintendent Darrell White, who is also a former governor's education deputy, was hired in November to produce a new plan after a court order nixed the research and a proposal created by the Boundary Advisory Committee.
A 2nd District Court judge in Farmington — responding to claims that the Boundary Advisory Committee formed to recommend new boundaries violated the state's open meetings law — issued a restraining order preventing the district from using any of the information gathered by the committee to make boundary decisions.
Due to time constraints, the district opted to dissolve the committee, start over and hire a consultant, rather than await further action by the court. White was then hired to produce a new proposal and has been working on it during the last month.
After board approval, maps of the new proposal will be available at www.davis.k12.ut.us.
