Kenneth Richard Young Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Kenneth Richard Young, 82, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He lived a valiant and exemplary life to the very end, continually smiling and demonstrating kindness to everyone. He was born June 24, 1923 to Newell Knight Young and Geneva Cooley in Riverton, Utah. Ken married his sweetheart Blanche Allen on March 17, 1944 in Olympia, Washington. Their love for each other was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on October 1, 1944. They had five children, 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Blanche died on May 11, 1987. Ken married Lois Jean Kiddle August 1, 1989. Together Ken and Lois took pride in 45 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Ken graduated from South High School in 1941. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. Ken loved sports and played football and baseball at South High. He played baseball in the Coast Guard and later semi-pro baseball. Throughout his life, he attended numerous athletic events in which his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren played. He loved BYU sports; he was a loyal fan, win or lose. He savored every moment he could spend with his family. He enjoyed playing games and attending musicals and plays. Ken was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, including: service to the youth, counselor in a bishopric, stake high councilor, and in high priest group leadership. Professionally he was an entrepreneurial businessman, specializing in sales. By his example he taught his family to love, work hard, be honest in dealing with others, help those in need, and act with kindness. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Blanche, brothers Vernon, Marvin, Joseph, and his sisters La Prele, Lydia, and Josephine. He is survived by his wife Lois, his sister Helen, his brother Kimball, his children, Kenneth Richard Young, Jr. (Janet), James Ronald Young, Barbara Lucille Young Bengtzen (Tim), Mark Allen Young (Sue), and David Scott Young (Jill) and by Lois' children, Robert Kay Roestenburg, Steven C. Roestenburg (Jean), Jololene Yoakum Allan (Richard), and Garon Yoakum (Rosalind). The family expresses appreciation to the many friends, family members, and professionals that provided loving care, encouragement and happiness during his final weeks of life. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 12:00 in the Holladay 10th Ward, 4601 S. 2565 E. (Murray- Holladay Road), Holladay, Utah. Friends and family may call Wednesday, February 15th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., and on Thursday at the Holladay 10th Ward from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
